The Currie Cup is also often called the Absa Currie Cup due to Sponsorship reasons. The ABSA Currie Cup features rugby teams such as the Blue Bulls, Natal Sharks, Free State Cheetahs, Western Province, Griquas, Lions, Leopards and the Pumas.

The ABSA Currie Cup is the world's oldest running Rugby tournament and is held each year in South Africa. The ABSA Currie Cup dates back to 1889 and is usually held between June and October.

The current ABSA Currie Cup Rugby format sees the competition split into two Rugby divisions. Eight rugby teams are in the Premier Division, and contest the ABSA Currie Cup.
